Rainbows
Here at St Bernadette’s, we provide a support group for children who have experienced or are experiencing any painful loss. This programme is called RAINBOWS.
When a significant change happens in a family, the entire family is affected. Many family issues that may appear to be only "grown-up" problems can have a profound effect on children. For example, if a family member becomes ill or dies or a divorce or separation happens then a painful loss occurs which affects not only adults but children too. Children can be affected when an older sibling goes away to university or moves out of the family home. At these times they may struggle to put their feelings into words due to their age and inexperience.
We have some very caring, trained members of staff who would like to help these children put their feelings into words, build a stronger sense of self-esteem, and begin to accept what has taken place in the family. This support group aims to assist children by helping them to understand and express their feelings and emotions about what has happened. This is by way of trained adults providing sensitive guidance for children to support each other through shared experiences.
If you feel your child would benefit by being involved in our Rainbows progamme, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Taylor, our Rainbows coordinator. She will be able to provide you with more information and advice about when the next programme will be commencing.
